Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development
Activity Type:
Education: General
Summary: The program will provide 100 students attending 4 low-income schools in Boise Idaho with 13 classes on life skills.
Everyday Leadership is a collaborative effort where Boise Metro and Sunrise Rotary Clubs
work with the Boise School District and Treasure Valley YMCA in providing fifth and sixth
grade students attending low-income schools with the self-confidence and life skills needed to
graduate. Students attend 13 classes led by school teachers and YMCA instructors. They
complete two or more service projects. Jefferson, Hillcrest, Garfield, and Hawthorne
Elementary schools provide facilities for the classes. The YMCA hosts fun events where students use their leadership and teamwork skills. 12-16 Rotarians meet with the students throughout the school year to discuss what they are learning and how they are using their new skills. Rotarians facilitate cooperation among the organizations and provide funding.
