Project Description Country: USA Location: Encinitas Total Budget: $10,000 Area of Focus: Community economic development Activity Type: Health: Volunteer Services Summary: This Grant will support the work of Serving Seniors who assist seniors in San Diego meet emergency expenses. Most of the beniffiting senior citizens who live on less than $1,100 a month. live Serving Seniors has built 6 affordable housing complexes across the San Diego County, providing safe, affordable housing for over 800 older adults, 88% of which live on less than $1,100 per month. Serving Seniors also has two senior wellness centers, the Gary and Mary West Senior Wellness Center located in downtown San Diego, and the Judith L. Seltz Senior Emergency Assistance and Housing Stability Program Description: To meet the challenge of high demand but limited housing resources, Serving Seniors developed an Emergency Assistance and Housing Stability Program provides emergency financial assistance and basic needs support to low-income and unhoused seniors. Types of assistance may include rental assistance to prevent homelessness, temporary lodging at a motel/hotel, utilities and other household bill payments, furniture/bed replacement, microwaves, home cleanings, pest control services, and hygiene/personal care items. Serving Seniors anticipates serving over 14,000 low-income seniors in the coming year. The funds will be distributed through the next 12 months. During this time Rotary members will meet this Servins Seniors staff quarterly to guage the inpact of this donation is having on our elderly community.
