Project Description Country: USA Location: San Diego Total Budget: $1,000 Area of Focus: None Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General Summary: Coordinate with Birdrock Elementary, The Outreach Program and Rotary Club of LaJolla Sunrise to package 2,000 meals for the underserved LaJolla Sunrise Past President John McGuinness and LJSR Rotarian Kenny Simpson are leading the LaJolla Sunrise project to conduct a meal packaging event to purchase and package 2,000 meals for the underserved. They have coordinated with Birdrock Elementary (San Diego) to provide the work space and vehicle parking, Birdrock Foundation to coordinate the school kid's participation and parents support, The Outreach Program (Floyd Hammer) to provide meal packaging materials, purchase ingredients and coordinate event activities, and District 5340 Rotarians to package the meals. These meals are formulated in collaboration with Iowa State University's Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition to provide shelf stable protein, essential nutrients and vitamins. Each meal is easy to prepare, only requiring boiling water.
