The Foundation for the Children of the Californias is a tri-national collaboration with Canada, the United States, and Mexico, endeavoring to improve the health and nutrition of underserved children in the border region through support for the Hospital Infantil de las Californias, a model pediatric specialty medical and education complex located one-half mile into Baja California, Mexico. The Mission Statement is to enhance the health and nutrition of underserved children in the San Diego-Tijuana Mega Region primarily through the support of Hospital Infantil de las Californias. Since 1994, Hospital Infantil de las Californias has provided essential healthcare services to children and adolescents from birth through age 18, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or religion.
The Foundation for the Children of the Californias seeks funding to renovate the existing playground at Hospital Infantil de las Californias and create a safe, accessible, and inclusive play environment for children receiving medical, therapeutic, and rehabilitation services.
The current playground equipment has deteriorated, presents potential safety risks, and is not designed to accommodate children with physical disabilities, limited mobility, sensory needs, or other developmental needs. Grant funding will help replace or upgrade existing equipment and create a welcoming environment where children of varying ages and abilities can play.
The Del Mar Solana Beach Rotary has met several times with hospital personnel to assess the needs of the hospital. After discussion, it was identified that additional and new playground equipment was needed. Picture of needed equipment attached. The plan is for members of the Rotary Club to visit the hospital on two occasions. The first is to tour the facility, and after the purchase of the equipment, assist in the installation of the equipment.
