Summary: Packing shelf-stable meals for families experiencing food insecurity in North County
According to the 2026 data of the San Diego Hunger Coalition, 25% of the general population and 32% of children in San Diego county are FOOD INSECURE (as defined as not having access to 3 healthy meals a day). Our club has been working with Chris Romero from the Rotary partner "The Outreach Program" [https://outreachprogram.org] to combat malnutrition. Our club purchases the food in bulk in dried form from The Outreach program and we provide the volunteers from our club and other Rotary Clubs and high school volunteers to assemble the meals, as directed by Chris. We plan to do one meal assembly session at a local high school -- where we will pack 10,000 meals in 2.5 hours. Each pack feeds a family of 6 and is nutritionally balanced and provides plant-based protein, as well. After packing the meals, we donate about 40% to the North County Food Bank and divide the rest of the boxes among the Rotary Clubs who sent volunteers. Then each Rotary Club distributes their share of boxes to local organizations.
