Our club partners with a national organization each year to provide bicycles to an entire third-grade class at an underserved elementary school in Escondido, serving North San Diego County.
Last year, we distributed 100 bicycles, each costing $70. The bicycles were delivered to one of our members' businesses, where approximately 20 club members volunteered to assemble them. Once assembled, we transported the bikes to the selected school in preparation for a special assembly.
During the assembly, students eagerly waited as winners of an essay contest were announced. Several children were recognized and awarded bicycles for their outstanding essays. Then came the surprise: instead of announcing one final winner, the students learned that every child in the class would receive a brand-new bicycle. The excitement and joy in the room made the event unforgettable for the students, their families, and our volunteers.
The project takes place each December, one week before the holidays, providing children and their families with a memorable gift and a meaningful expression of community support.
Last year, our club funded half of the bicycles, while individual members generously purchased the remaining bikes. In total, 50 members contributed by sponsoring one or more bicycles, making this one of our most successful and rewarding community outreach projects.
All funds raised will be used exclusively to purchase bicycles for the children.
