BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION
The ongoing war in Ukraine continues to have a profound impact on thousands of children and families who have lost loved ones, experienced displacement, or endured prolonged psychological stress. Children of fallen Ukrainian defenders and their surviving family members are among the most vulnerable groups, facing grief, anxiety, emotional withdrawal, disrupted social development, and limited access to professional psychosocial support.
Since the beginning of the war, Rotary clubs in Ukraine have witnessed an increasing need for structured rehabilitation programs that combine psychological recovery, family support, social integration, recreation, and emotional resilience-building. Previous Rotary-supported rehabilitation camps demonstrated significant positive outcomes for participating families, confirming the effectiveness of combining therapy, recreation, peer support, and educational activities in a safe environment.
Building on this successful experience, Rotary Club Kharkiv City proposes to implement a comprehensive annual rehabilitation program consisting of five therapeutic camps in the western region of Ukraine. Each camp will include two 10-day rehabilitation sessions for mothers and children from families of fallen Ukrainian defenders and other war-affected families from all regions of Ukraine.
The program will provide professional psychological support, family counseling, emotional intelligence development, recreation, sports activities, creative workshops, and peer-to-peer support, helping participants restore emotional well-being, strengthen family relationships, and regain confidence in the future.
