Do any of these committee members have potential conflict of interest? If so, please briefly explain. No. Tell us a little about your project. What are the main objectives of the project, and who will benefit from it? The project aims at providing the basic water facilities required in the Ugbodu community market and environs in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria under District 9141. The scope includes drilling and provision of solar-powered borehole with concomitant water reticulation system; stations, surface tanks and distribution outlets and taps for the inhabitants of these communities. A needs assessment was carried out in the community and it was ascertained that the Ugbodu community market, which is the hub of activities is in dire need of modern water treatment plant to make potable water available to save man hours spent in trekking long distances to their water source: OHE RIVER and brooks in search of water which is unsafe for drinking. The women and children go through difficult terrains and situations to get access to clean water for their daily needs, which is about 10km from the town centre increasing the chances of hazards to themselves. Water is life; thus, provision of water borehole would prevent the people from water borne diseases, enhance community development, encourage good sanitation habits/practices and empower the community through the various means of utilizing water. This justifies the need for the project to be undertaken at the Ugbodu community with a population of 17,000 inhabitants. About 86% of the members of the community do not have access to potable water. This project is designed to provide a water borehole that will serve the community and its environs. This project scope will cover provision of 2000 gallons elevated UPVC tanks on a steel stanchion, structural steel works with pipeline reticulation within the community Centre. As well as drilling an industrial borehole to reach the aquifer. The people of Ugbodu Community and environs will be the beneficiaries of the Water Borehole project. The need being addressed is to provide potable water for Ugbodu community market to enhance the well-being of the people and by extension prevent water borne diseases; uplift their economic life. It is expected that thousands of persons shall be benefitting from this project monthly. The Rotary Club of Asaba will work with the community leaders to ensure that the facility when completed will be safeguarded and maintained, and that the people continue to derive the benefits of this humanitarian project in their community. Head of the community and leaders would be held accountable to ensure that the desired project goals are accomplished, and any operational handicaps are brought to the notice of the representative of the host Rotary Club. Humanitarian Projects - Project Planning Describe the community needs that your project will address. This project aims at providing the basic water facilities required in Ugbodu community market which include provision of Water borehole, plumbing works, extension of taps, with solar powered for the community inhabitants. A needs assessment was carried out in the community and it was ascertained that the villagers are in dire need of clean portable water. Ugbodu lies between coordinates 6°16'0 north, 6°36'0 east. It is in Aniocha North LGA of Delta state Nigeria. Geologically speaking, Ugbodu falls in the Issele-Uku formation at the coastal plain sand. About 86% of the members of this community do not have access to clean water. This Water project is designed to provide water that will serve the whole members of this community. It will not be like the regular borehole projects that give water only to those who come to its location, neither will it depend on the electricity from government and generators, which are not always dependable and are very expensive to run. This project will have a network of pipes and more storage tanks designed to transfer water from the stanchion to different locations of the town to make the water closer and more available to the people. As such, it is expected that about 5,000 people shall be benefitting from this project daily. The facility will be solar-powered and shall depend majorly on daylight power to pump water while it shall provide power at night to give light to its surroundings and power the pump through inverters and batteries. This equipment shall last for 5 years before most of the parts are replaced. Furthermore, the water facility will have a treatment unit that will purify the water to make it safe for human consumption. The Rotary Club of Asaba will work with the community leaders to ensure that the facilities are built, maintained, and that the people continue to derive the benefits of the humanitarian service How did your project team identify these needs. - How were members of the benefiting community involved in finding solutions. Members of the Club have been in contact with the community in the last couple of years. On the numerous visits to the Ugbodu community embarked upon by the club; community leaders expressed the need for improved water and sanitation experiences; good drinking water with modern equipment to prevent water borne diseases. After a careful review of the challenges facing the community, it was agreed to prioritize what was needed and achievable within the shortest possible time. Hence, the focus of this project is on these areas of acute needs mentioned. How were community members involved in planning the project. The host club members identified the Ugbodu community market for the project after several visits in line with the slogan WATER IS LIFE and the actual need required has been discussed with THE COMMUNITY LEADERS. This is with a view to ensuring that the COMMUNITY can meet the project objectives. Humanitarian Projects - Project Implementation Summarize each step of your project's implementation.
