The Rotary District 5010 E-Club, in collaboration with community leaders and Susitna Rotary, is proud to submit this grant proposal for the development of Jordan Lake Park-a
transformative community project located in the heart of Big Lake, Alaska.
Big Lake is a growing community of approximately 35,000 residents, with an average
household income of $60,000. Despite its scenic beauty and strong community spirit, Big Lake
has limited safe, accessible recreational spaces for children and families.
The proposed park site-strategically located between the Big Lake Library and Big Lake Elementary School-is ideal for serving as a hub for youth, education, and family engagement.
The vision for Jordan Lake Park is to create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space where
local children can play, learn, and grow. In partnership with community leaders, the park will
feature dedicated zones for "Reading in the Park" programs-offering a unique opportunity to
blend outdoor recreation with literacy and educational development. With direct access to both
the school and the library, the park will be a natural extension of the community's learning
environment.
Further expanding the impact of this project, the E-Club and Susitna Rotary are also integrating the "Kids Don't Float" life jacket loaner board program-an existing, successful Rotary initiative designed to promote water safety for children.
Given Big Lake's proximity to water and popular recreational use, this addition is not only practical but essential.
In a remarkable show of local support, this project has already inspired a coalition of local
business owners and community stakeholders, leading to active discussions around forming a new Big Lake Rotary Club.
This collaboration with the District 5010 E-Club and Susitna Rotary lays the foundation for sustained community engagement, service, and Rotary growth in the region.
Jordan Lake Park will be more than a playground-it will be a community cornerstone, fostering education, safety, service, and fellowship. With Rotary at its core, the park reflects our commitment to service above self and the lasting impact of grassroots community projects.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Please change the number of residents in Big Lake to 4,000 (not 35,000). Thank you!
