Project Description: Community Free Bookshelf: Read, Share, and Donate
Project Summary:
The Community Free Bookshelf project will establish a public bookshelf in Ozone Park to provide free access to books, newspapers, and educational materials for all residents. The bookshelf will encourage reading habits, promote literacy, and foster community engagement through knowledge-sharing. Community members will be able to take, donate, or share books, creating a sustainable and inclusive learning environment.
Objectives:
- Promote literacy among children, youth, and adults.
- Encourage community participation through book donations and reading activities.
- Support lifelong learning and access to educational resources.
- Promote sustainability by recycling books and newspapers.
Planned Activities:
Design & Build: Construct a weather-resistant bookshelf in a safe, accessible public location.
Collection Drive: Organize a campaign to collect books and newspapers from local schools, libraries, and residents.
Awareness Campaign: Promote the project through flyers, social media, and school outreach.
Maintenance Team: Form a volunteer group to keep the shelf organized, clean, and well-stocked.
Reading Promotion: Host occasional "Reading Days" and storytelling sessions to engage children and families.
