Summary: Healthy Mind Initiatives will implement the MindTheMends screening app and wellness workshops to provide free mental health screening support and awareness for underprivileged children ages 5–21 in Queens
Healthy Mind Initiatives project will create app called MindTheMends. This app will address the urgent mental health screening needs for underprivileged children in Queens, New York. In this community, access to mental health care is extremely limited, and awareness about childhood mental health challenges is often lacking in schools and institutions. Many children silently struggle with anxiety, depression, hyperactivity, and other conditions without receiving proper support or guidance.
To respond to this need, the club will implement MindTheMends, a mental health screening app and wellness program designed specifically for underserved children and youth ages 5-21 years old. This initiative combines digital innovation with professional screening to ensure children receive early identification, awareness, care and referral.
Activities Funded by the Project:
will provide 15 children full screening session and referral
Development and use of the MindTheMends mental health screening app, providing low cost and accessible tools for early identification.
Free professional mental health screenings conducted by medical office, in collaboration with local therapy offices.
Wellness workshops for children focused on coping skills, stress management, and emotional resilience.
Awareness and educational workshops for parents and caregivers, reducing stigma and increasing knowledge about child mental health.
Community awareness campaigns to highlight the importance of addressing anxiety, depression, hyperactivity, and major depressive disorder in children and youth.
Beneficiaries:
Children and youth between the ages of 5-21 years old in underprivileged communities of Jamaica, Queens.
Parents, families, and schools who will gain increased understanding and resources to support children's mental health.
Use of Project Funds:
arranging professional mental health therapists to conduct screenings and workshops.
Development, maintenance, and implementation of the MindTheMends app.
Educational materials for children, parents, and schools.
Venue and logistical support for wellness workshops and awareness events.
Rotary Club Member Involvement:
Coordinating partnerships with schools, community centers, and therapy offices.
Supporting outreach, awareness campaigns, and workshop facilitation.
Assisting with program logistics, volunteer support, and impact evaluation.
Through MindTheMends, this project will bring hope, healing, and early intervention to children in Queens-helping them build healthier, more resilient futures.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Our ongoing Rotary Club Children's Mental Health and Art Wellness Initiative is progressing well. The project's frontend is complete, and backend testing is underway. We recently held an art‑based workshop promoting mindfulness, emotional awareness, and creativity among children. Through guided activities, the children learned how to identify, express, and manage emotions using art as a therapeutic tool. Mindfulness exercises helped them build focus, calmness, and self‑regulation. The initiative aims to integrate psychoeducation, mindfulness training, and creative arts therapy into future sessions, encouraging empathy, coping skills, and emotional resilience. Our goal is to strengthen mental well‑being and confidence
