Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Homer

Total Budget: $5,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Activity Type: Water: Sanitation

Summary: Funding to complete badly needed sewer project

A multi-phase project to stabilize the sewer treatment plant operation . This project will provide solar power to supplement an unreliable electrical grid, preventing sewage overflows, and the dumping of untreated sewage into the riverbed. It will allow the treatment system to operate as designed, eliminating the environmental emergency and an opportunity to reuse treated water. "Nuevo Mulege" is the name of a part of town that was built by the government for displaced local residents after severe flooding a few years ago. This grant would provide the funds needed for the Hybrid 12V Inverter, one of the major components needed for the project. Several other US Rotary clubs are participating in this project. Total budget for the project is $30,000USD. I have personally visited the Mulege Rotary club and know several of the members and their dedication to the community. There are about 850 residents in Nuevo Mulege and 4 schools.
