Summary: Community Wellness Gathering Bringing Together Harlem Community Partners
Collaborate with community partners to facilitate wellness activities (e.g. yoga, sound bath, visioning exercises, children's groups)in a public park (Riverside) to enhance the well-being of Harlem residents. Harlem is a community with exceptionally high chronic illness rates: asthma, obesity and hypertension, along with environmental and systemic barriers to care. Yoga, sound baths, group activities centered on wellness are all efforts to utilize the park to enhance the well-being of Harlem residents and promote wellness practices that residents can continue in groups and independently. Community partners (Harlem Y, Salvation Army, Housing Works, Harlem Wellness Center) are joining the Rotary Club of Harlem in our efforts to inform and empower Harlem residents with practices to impact their well-being. Project funds will be used for entertainment, children's activities, group wellness activities, park administrative fees and giveaways. Club members are involved via planning the event, engaging community members and partner organizations and following up with attendees for feedback on impact.
