Rotary Club: Fairbanks Golden Heart Project Title: The Door - Emergency Shelter 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The project's purpose was to support The Door, an emergency youth shelter, sponsored by Fairbanks Youth Advocates. In raising money for The Door, we raised awareness of the needs of this organization. To raise the funds for our club, we held a golf tournament at the Chena Bend Golf Course. At the tournament luncheon, the Executive Director spoke to the golfers about their needs. 2. How many people benefited from this project? The homeless youth of Fairbanks. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? We all benefit. The homeless youth are better served with the availability of meals available and places to sleep for short term. The Door is able to help youth get the basic services they need as well as services that will help them plan for the longer term. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 8 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Valerie Therrien is the chair of the tournament and organizes everything from the initial letter to the donors and sponsors (helped by Melody Debenham) to the upkeep of the annual tournament sponsors. Carol Adamczak called businesses for sponsors. Ben Kates updated all of the signage for the current sponsors. Carol also purchased and served the golfer continental breakfast. The remaining members were there on the day of the tournament selling closest to the hole tickets and monitoring the hole in one prize offer. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? The Door helped us with their social media awareness of the upcoming tournament. 7. Income
