Rotary Club: Fairbanks Golden Heart

Project Title: Ending the Silence


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

Materials and training were provided for the "Ending the Silence" program with the local National Alliance on Mental Illness chapter. These presentations have been made throughout the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.

2. How many people benefited from this project? 137 students and 31 staff members to date.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

The beneficiaries are the youth of the Fairbanks Community. The project has raised awareness of mental health and suicide among the youth. The investment in training costs and materials for the presentation will allow this project to continue to reach more of the students and staff in the Fairbanks area.

4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? seven

5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project.

NAMI was present at the Golf Tournament and spoke to the golfers at the luncheon. This direct contact raises community awareness and helped raise additional funds. Two members make calls to all protentional sponsors explaining the goal of the project and get support and awareness from the many local businesses.

6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?

Fairbanks Golden Heart Rotary and NAMI were the only organizations involved with this project.
