Project Title: SD River Park Foundation


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

These funds helped sponsor community river cleanups in Santee, purchase cleanup supplies such as trash bags, and cover the costs of data collection on the amount and type of trash present to inform efficient and effective cleanup efforts.

The Education program also provides free innovative STEM learning experiences along the San Diego River to Santee K-12 students. The majority of the schools they serve are Title 1 and they serve a majority of underserved students and connect them to nature.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Beneficiaries include unhoused individuals living in the riverbed, residents of Santee, and all residents living along the complete San Diego River. The benefit is not only cosmetic, but improved the health of the entire river ecosystem, while decreasing health hazards to the public.

Rotarians and Interactors participated in river clean up days.
