Rotary Club: Del Mar-Solana Beach Project Title: Improving Children Lives 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Project will last for 7 months and will be implemented by a team consisting of one Project Coordinator and 4 community facilitators -one for each community. These facilitators work part-time and are responsible for sensitizing, accompanying, and promoting the active participation of families, community leaders, and other stakeholders. The Project aims to stimulate and ensure children's rights fulfillment, improve health and living conditions of families, enhance environmental conditions, and food production in communities. • Project components: 1. Family Circles: groups of 15 - 20 families with children aged 0-4 years old, meet at least twice a week for a 2-hour journey to share knowledge and experiences on child-rearing, nutrition, and early development stimulation. They also learn and practice early stimulation techniques and create educational toys using recyclable materials. 2. Health, Nutrition, and Environmental Care: focus on health education to prevent malnutrition, chronic diseases, cancer in women, and disabilities in newborns. Nutrition workshops, follow-up on severe cases, visual health campaigns, promotion of food, and environmental care actions are conducted. 3. Community Participation: Community leaders are trained, advised, and accompanied to empower them to manage and implement various actions for their community development. • Project results: - 70 parents and caregivers trained in health, nutrition, early childhood development, and rights protection. - 80 children under 4 years are adequately stimulated, nourished, and showing normal development for their age. - 70 families are sensitized to health topics, making informed decisions and preventing diseases. - 40 families started food production, and 4 families were supported to begin chicken farms. - 70 families actively participating in environmental care with the Support of community leaders. - 20 community leaders actively participating and supporting various activities with participating families. The Del Mar Solana Beach Rotary Club has been involved with OEF for over 20 years. A delegation of 10 Club Members will be traveling to El Salvador in August to visit the project. A representative from OEF periodically visits the Rotary Club. The Rotary Club, during our involvement with OEF has provided financial resources to assist in improving the lives of families served by OEF. 2. How many people benefited from this project? 350 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? 70 parents and caregivers trained in health, nutrition, early childhood development, and the protection of rights. - 80 children under 4 years are adequately stimulated, nourished, and showing normal development for their age. - 70 families are sensitized to health topics, making informed decisions and preventing diseases. - 40 families started food production, and 4 families were supported to begin chicken farms. - 70 families actively participating in environmental care with the Support of community leaders. - 20 community leaders actively participating and supporting various activities with participating families. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 5 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Five Rotarians and five guests for a total of ten visited and interacted with this Rotary District Giant. During the visit, the following were some of the activities of the project participants. project. 1. There were visits to all of the projects outlined above, which involved interacting with the participants and observing the projects. 2. It was the 40th anniversary of OEF and 22 years of the Del Mar Solana Beach Rotaru involvement with OEF. There was a celebration for both achievements, and the Rotarians and guests were fully involved. 3. Rotarians and guests assisted with the work that the project involved. Rotarians interacted with the children involved as well as the parents. Most of the involvement required the need for translators, which was hired for the time in El Salvador. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role?
