Rotary Club: El Cajon Sunset Project Title: Food Security 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? This project was funded by Rotary District 5340 DDF and a matching donation from Rotary Club of El Cajon Sunset. A donation of $600 was made to I AM MY BROTHERS KEEPER CDC organization for the purchase of refrigeration freezer equipment. This donation and other funds purchased a 40-foot-long refrigerator. The bigger efficient refrigerator maintains fresh food for a longer time. The larger quantities of food stored in the refrigerator meet the demand for the vulnerable community of Southeastern San Diego. The event took place in San Diego on March 10, 2026 2. How many people benefited from this project? Over 450 families benefit each week. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? Residents of Southeast San Diego and the environs. This project allows for storage of large quantiles of food to address distribution deficiencies and food security challenges. The residents are overjoyed to now start receiving fresh vegetables and other healthy foods that are now available, thanks to improved storage capacity. Food storage, quantity stored and poor distribution of food was addressed. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 10 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Provided ideas on equipment. Created awareness for community food distribution needs. Provided project final report, documentation and pictures. Rotarians continue to volunteer at IAMBK CDC in food packaging. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? None 7.
