Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Colombia

Location: Armenia - Quindío

Total Budget: $37,124

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

1. PROJECT OBJECTIVES:

To contribute to the comprehensive strengthening of the Hospital of Córdoba, Quindío, through the provision of strategic medical equipment that increases diagnostic, therapeutic, and operational capacity, guaranteeing the community timely, safe, and high-quality access to health services.

2. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The project seeks to modernize the San Roque Hospital of Córdoba (Quindío) by providing medical, technological, and hospital support equipment that strengthens its healthcare capacity and improves the quality of care. The initiative includes the acquisition of clinical instruments, dental units, diagnostic equipment, video surveillance systems, a three-phase solar power plant, and specialized furniture.

This equipment will allow for higher standards of care, reduced response times, and greater operational safety. Additionally, the project includes technical training for staff in the operation of the new equipment, its integration into hospital management systems, and the implementation of practices focused on energy efficiency and institutional sustainability.

Direct beneficiaries: Patients treated at the San Roque Hospital in Córdoba, Hospital health personnel (doctors, dentists, nurses, assistants, technicians and administrative staff), Community of the municipality of Córdoba, who will have access to safer, timelier and quality care.

Indirect beneficiaries: Residents of the surrounding municipalities in northern Quindío and bordering areas (Buenavista, Pijao, and Génova) who use the hospital as a referral center for medical emergencies. Patients' families, the departmental health system, and the community in general, thanks to the implementation of sustainability practices that contribute to environmental protection and the efficient use of public resources.

WHAT NEEDS WERE IDENTIFIED?

Obsolescence and deterioration of medical equipment, compromising diagnoses and treatments.

Lack of modern technology that limits operational efficiency and patient safety.

High demand for services without adequate technical infrastructure.

Need for hospital coverage for neighbouring municipalities (Buenavista, Pijao, and Génova).

Community concern about the hospital's limited capacity to handle emergencies and highly complex illnesses.

IS THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED? DESCRIBE THE ROLE OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY IN THE IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTINUITY OF THE PROJECT.

The project was developed with the active participation of the hospital, local authorities, and the community.

Participation in design and adaptation: Community leaders and medical staff prioritized equipment according to actual needs.

Labor: Local technicians and suppliers will support the installation and commissioning. Education and Awareness: Staff will be trained, and a culture of equipment care will be promoted.

Governance and Monitoring: A monitoring committee comprised of representatives from the hospital, Rotary Club, and the community will ensure traceability.

Social Impact: Users directly benefit from faster, safer, and higher-quality care.

EXPECTED RESULTS

- 30% increase in diagnostic and therapeutic service capacity.

- 20% average reduction in diagnosis and treatment times.

- Decreased clinical risks thanks to modern equipment.

- 25% reduction in patient transfers to Armenia.

- Improved coverage and quality of hospital services for more than 21,000 residents.
