Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Argentina

Location: Puerto Iguazu

Total Budget: $48,860

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

The project Re-equipping and Strengthening the Pediatric Service of SAMIC Hospital Iguazu GG 2692113 was born from a reality that deeply challenges our community: the need to guarantee dignified, safe, and humanized pediatric care for hundreds of children who depend daily on the public healthcare system.

SAMIC Hospital Iguazu is the main - and in many cases the only - public referral center for pediatric care in Puerto Iguazu and much of the northern region of the Province of Misiones. It not only serves vulnerable urban and rural families, but also children belonging to GuaranÃÆ' indigenous communities throughout the region, who often find in this hospital their only opportunity to access specialized and quality medical services.

Every day, mothers and fathers arrive at the hospital after traveling long distances and facing difficult economic situations, seeking something essential: that their children may receive care with safety, support, and hope. However, the Pediatric Service currently faces significant deterioration of its infrastructure and equipment, resulting from years of intensive use and growing demand that exceeds the available material resources.

This reality directly impacts the quality of care for newborns and hospitalized children, the clinical safety of patients, and also the daily efforts of the medical and nursing staff who work with commitment to sustain the service. Many families go through moments of enormous distress in spaces that today urgently need to be strengthened and re-equipped.

In response to this concrete need, the project proposes a comprehensive intervention aimed at transforming the Pediatric Service into a safer, more modern, efficient, and humane space. The initiative includes the acquisition of essential medical equipment and appropriate technology to improve pediatric care, especially in critical situations and prolonged hospitalizations.

Among the main items to be incorporated are:

*Infusion pumps for the precise and safe administration of pediatric treatments.

*A neonatal incubator/servo-controlled crib intended for the safe care of newborns.

*Pediatric beds and appropriate hospital furniture.

*Computer equipment to strengthen the digital medical records system used throughout the province.

*Air conditioning equipment and elements that contribute to creating a more comfortable and humanized environment for hospitalized children and their families.

This project does not represent merely an improvement in equipment or technology. It represents the concrete possibility of saving lives, reducing preventable complications, and providing equal opportunities in access to child healthcare for those who need it most. It means supporting children in vulnerable situations with better care conditions and offering peace of mind to families going through difficult moments far from their homes.

Likewise, the project is fully aligned with Rotary's Area of Focus "Maternal and Child Health," promoting the strengthening of the public healthcare system and improving access to essential medical services for children.

Use of Funds

The Global Grant funds will be allocated entirely to the acquisition and installation of medical equipment, hospital furniture, and technology for the Pediatric Service of SAMIC Hospital Iguazu, prioritizing resources that improve clinical safety, quality of care, and hospitalization conditions for pediatric patients.

Every contribution made by participating Rotary clubs will be directly transformed into concrete tools for the care of children and newborns who depend on the public healthcare system.

Participation of Club Members

Members of the Rotary Club Puerto Iguazu Cataratas will have active and ongoing participation throughout all stages of the project.

The local club will be responsible for:

*The comprehensive coordination and execution of the Global Grant.

*The administrative and financial monitoring of the project.

*Coordination with SAMIC Hospital Iguazu and health authorities.

*Supervision of the purchase, reception, and installation of equipment.

*Monitoring and evaluation of results.

*Preparation of periodic reports for The Rotary Foundation.

*Community outreach and institutional support for the project.

For its part, the international sponsor club will support the process through document follow-up, virtual coordination meetings, and ongoing institutional support, strengthening the spirit of international cooperation and Rotary solidarity.

This project reflects the true spirit of Rotary: joining efforts beyond borders to transform realities and generate opportunities where they are most needed. It seeks to leave a lasting impact on the community by strengthening public pediatric care and providing hundreds of children with a safer, more dignified, and humane environment of care.
