Project Description

Region: South America

Country: Colombia

Location: Medellin

Total Budget: $32,860

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Eastern Antioquia is a subregion characterized by a significant rural population (46.7%), facing limited access to formal employment and quality education. This lack of local opportunity has driven a migration trend toward urban centers. Currently, the region faces a stark gender unemployment gap, with an 11.8% rate for women compared to 7.2% for men

Simultaneously, there is a burgeoning demand for qualified caregivers for older adults. This is driven by an influx of high-income retirees relocating to the region who are seekingâ€"and are willing to pay forâ€"professionalized care services.

We will train 180 caregivers for OLDER ADULTS within the framework of the “Las Juanitas al Cuidado de la Vida Project”, with high ethical values and the development of technical and soft skills to access formal employment and quality higher education, improving their quality of life through economic autonomy.

This project aims to bridge the gap between the supply and demand for caregivers in the area.

By providing vocational training, we offer a sustainable pathway to formal employment for rural women and those from low socioeconomic strata, with qualifications 1, 2, and 3, fostering local economic development and ensuring dignified care for the elderly.

Medellín Nutibara RC, primary host partner, will receive the funds from this grant. It possesses the legal status required by Colombian authorities for financial matters. The Rotary Corporation of Medellín Nutibara, with Tax Identification Number (NIT) 890.985.113-1, will have a specific account to receive, manage, and control expenses related to the project. A member designated by the club will serve as treasurer, responsible for managing the bank account and making payments authorized by the project committee as the project progresses.

La Victoria RC, primary international partner, will verify the proper design of the training program, review the progress of its implementation, and approve the periodic reports submitted by Medellín Nutibara and the entity operating the project. Whenever it deems necessary, it will visit the project and request any additional reports it requires.
