The Baja California Pediatric Cancer Center is the only hospital treating childhood cancer in all of Baja
CA.
Tijuana and Thousand Oaks Rotary clubs have supported this hospital for years with grants to purchase
equipment and provide chemotherapy drugs. It is a comprehensive holistic cancer center which means
they focus on the mental, physical, nutritional and medical needs of each child and also supports their
families as they traverse the cancer journey. Patients do not pay for their services and most are
indigent. Instead, they partner with the Castro Limon Foundation which has been the inspiration and
funding source for the hospital since its inception. Their success is well documented - they have an 83%
survival rate for childhood leukemia and a 74% survival rate for solid tumors. This contrasts with the
national average in Mexico of 56%. The main objective of this grant is to upgrade the surgery room for
the Centro Oncologico Pediatrico in Tijuana and to fulfill the quality standards established by the NOM
(Norma Oficial Mexicana). This will allow them to maintain the requirements in order to perform life
saving surgeries to the underprivileged children diagnosed with Cancer from Mexico & the US whom
are treated by the hospital & oncologists. This is the second phase where we are focusing on the
second phase of the surgery room & the recovery room.
