	D-1972    Philippines - Pinamalayan, Or.Mdo. Ambulance $21,000 Social welfare and development projects are lacking in the town of Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro Philippines. Health care benefits, social security, and effective disaster responsiveness is very poor. As a matter of fact, there is only 1 working ambulance, 1 community clinic and 2 old firetrucks (2000 liters cap). The said equipments and facility is inadequate to serve the 90,000 people living in the town of Pinamalayan. Ambulance to transport victims (road accidents and natural calamities) is highly needed in this town.As mentioned earlier, there is only one community clinic which also serve the residents from other towns in the 2nd district of Oriental Mindoro. There are private hospitals and clinics around the town, however, majority of the population cannot afford the services of these hospitals due to financial constraints. Moreover, these hospitals have inadequate medical facilities and equipment to effectively respond with the needs of the people. The fully equipped hospital is 70 kilometers away from Pinamalayan, located in Calapan City. With only 1 working ambulance of the municipal government (wherein you have to shell out everything; from fuel to the driver's allowance), people opt to hire vehicles during emergencies with the same expense. Worse, these vehicles are not equipped and designed to transport patients. Thus,with this project, Rotary Club of Pinamalayan Central aims to respond with the primary need of the people in Pinamalayan and nearby towns.
